Soups and Salads to Balance the Indulgence
Soups at Monaghan’s are perfect on a cold New York night. The French Onion Soup is cooked in Guinness and baked with cheese on top. It costs about $9.93. I eat it slowly, enjoying every bite. They even have a Soup DJ. Ask your server what is playing today. It’s always a fun surprise.
The salads here are not just sides. They can be a full meal. The Goat Cheese Salad costs around $19.93. It has pecans, dried cranberries, and goat cheese in raspberry dressing. I sometimes add grilled chicken for more protein. The Asian Salad has mixed greens, red onions, green apples, mandarin oranges, and roasted cashews with sesame dressing. It is fresh and tangy.
If you like classics, try the Caesar Salad. It has crispy romaine, garlic croutons, tangy dressing, and parmesan. I like to add chicken for a Chicken Caesar Salad. The Cobb Salad has roasted chickpeas, avocado, bacon, egg, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and blue cheese. You can choose your dressing. The Irish Wedge is a crisp iceberg quarter with grape tomatoes, chunky blue cheese, and balsamic drizzle. Simple, yet feels special.
For something bigger, try the Blackened Chicken Cobb Salad. The blackened chicken adds bold flavor. It is a tasty way to start before a main dish.
Pasta and Comfort Classics That Hug Your Taste Buds
Pasta lovers, Monaghan’s has dishes that feel like cozy nights. The Penne Ala Vodka is penne in creamy vodka sauce. I add grilled chicken and bacon for extra flavor. It costs about $20 with add-ons.
The Mushroom & Cheese Ravioli has wild mushrooms, fontina cheese, grape tomatoes, and fresh herbs in sherry cream sauce. I ate a plate after a tough week total mood booster.
Bridie’s Chicken Pot Pie ($24.93) has chunks of chicken, carrots, peas, and mushrooms in light cream sauce under flaky pastry. Break the crust and watch the steam rise it feels like home cooking, but better.
Irish food shines too. Shepherd’s Pie ($23.68) has chopped sirloin, onions, carrots, and mashed potatoes, baked golden. I sometimes add chicken ($8) or grilled shrimp ($10). It is filling and sticks to your ribs. Diet? Maybe skip it… or not! Life is short.
Fish fans will love the Fish & Chips. Beer-battered cod with steak fries, crispy outside, flaky inside. I dip it in malt vinegar for a true pub feel. Bad fish and chips? Not here they get the batter right every time.
Meaty Mains and Irish Favorites
Meat shines at Monaghan’s. The Long Island Steak Tidbits ($24.93) have sliced steak on garlic bread with melted mozzarella and steak fries. I get mine medium-rare. The juices soak into the bread so good. The Dublin Broil is sliced flank steak in mushroom gravy. Simple, but cooked perfectly.
Chicken fans have many choices. Chicken Cordon Bleu has boneless breast with ham and swiss. The cheese is gooey and delicious. Chicken Française dips the breast in egg batter with lemon-wine-butter sauce. It is zesty and light. Chicken Parmigiana is breaded, topped with mozzarella and marinara, served over linguini. A tasty Italian-Irish mix.
Roasted Stuffed Turkey comes with breadcrumb stuffing. It tastes like Thanksgiving anytime. The Build Your Own MONAGHAN’S 10 oz BURGER lets you add toppings like cheese, bacon, or mushrooms for $1.50 each. I pile mine with sautéed onions and cheddar. Juicy and perfect.
Irish classics are here too. Irish Style Lamb Stew has tender lamb, vegetables, and broth. It warms you up. Irish Bangers & Mash has sausages in Guinness onion gravy. I once ate this in a snowstorm; it felt like Dublin. Roast Long Island Duck with Grand Marnier sauce is fancy. Sautéed Calf’s Liver with onions and bacon is old-school, but tasty.
Seafood Selections That Make Waves
Seafood at Monaghan’s is fresh and creative. The Broiled Fisherman’s Platter has stuffed shrimp, stuffed sole, baked clams, and scallops. I share it with friends so many choices.
Oven Baked Stuffed Sole ($32.43) has crabmeat in lobster sauce over lump crab risotto. Rich and fancy.
Blackened Sole sits on sautéed spinach and lump crab risotto. Salsa crude and garlic aioli add a spicy kick. Shrimp & Sole Milanese is breaded, topped with arugula, grape tomatoes, red onion, balsamic, and parmesan. Crunchy and fresh.
Lobster Quesadilla has lobster, green onions, tomatoes, cheeses, and cilantro in a tortilla. Mango salsa and sour cream on the side. Maryland Crab Cakes come with veggie salsa and spicy mustard remoulade. I dip them generously the crab flavor pops.
Irish Smoked Salmon sits on a potato pancake with chive sour cream, tomato, onion, capers, and balsamic. Great as a starter or a light main.
Sandwiches and Sliders for Casual Cravings
Sandwiches at Monaghan’s are filling but not heavy. The New York Ruben has corned beef, swiss, and sauerkraut classic deli style. Barry McGuigan’s Blackened Chicken has mustard remoulade, swiss, and grilled onions on a club roll. Named after a boxer it packs a punch of flavor.
Smokey Mountain Chicken has barbecue sauce, bacon, mozzarella, and cheddar on a club roll. Smoky and cheesy. The Turkey Burger uses fresh turkey on brioche with arugula, tomato, and sweet potato fries. A lighter option. Carolina Pulled Pork Sliders have tangy BBQ pork on brioche with sweet potato fries. I usually get two they are addictive.
Portobello Tidbits grill portobello mushrooms on garlic bread with mozzarella and BBQ sauce. A veggie option, but not “light.”
Kids’ Corner: Little Ones Eat Well Too
Bringing the kids? Monaghan’s Kids Menu costs $8.95. It comes with soda and ice cream.
Choices include:
- Hot Dog & Fries
- Chicken Fingers & Fries
- Kids Burger & Fries
- Grilled Cheese & Fries
- Pasta with butter or marinara
Simple and kid-approved. Families always enjoy it.
Gluten-Free Goodness for All
Monaghan’s has many gluten-free options. They even have a separate menu.
Try Prince Edward Island Mussels in garlic wine ($10.95). Or Irish Smoked Salmon without the pancake.
Entrees include a 20oz Sirloin (no sauce or onions, $26.95) and Marinated Rib Eye ($26.95).
They use separate fryers, so it is safe for people with celiac. I like this. Friends with gluten restrictions love it too.
Dietary Options
Monaghan’s offers vegetarian-friendly dishes such as the Irish Potato Soup and seasonal vegetable sides. Gluten-free options are available on request. Please inform the staff of any allergies or dietary restrictions.
Why Monaghan’s Menu Stands Out
Monaghan’s is more than a regular pub. It mixes Irish tradition with creative twists.
Their Shepherd’s Pie is better than chain versions. The ingredients are fresh.
Prices are mid-range: appetizers $10–15, mains $20–30. Portions are big, so it is good value.
I tried the Blackened Salmon on my last visit. It was seared perfectly, not dry. Better than I can make at home.
Weekends get busy. Make a reservation to be safe.
